We are dedicated to helping women pursue unconventional paths to motherhood.

Our work includes:

  • Offering education, counseling and community support so women can choose motherhood on their own terms.

  • Changing “Presumed Father” laws nationwide to better protect the rights of single mothers.

Overview

Founded in 2025, Cheri's Choice stands with women writing their own motherhood stories. We offer the guidance, community, and support women need to confidently build the families they've always imagined.

As a new entity, we are in our initial stages, and we expect to have services available in early 2026.

  • Education: Workshops exploring the diverse options to pursue motherhood (fostering, surrogacy, adoption, infertility treatments, sperm and egg donors).

  • Counseling: Free and low-cost counseling to guide women through decision-making about their path to motherhood, including their resources, support system, priorities, and values.

  • Community Support: Access to free discussion groups with like-minded women to support each other on the journey.

Please review the collection of resources we’ve organized to support you on your personal motherhood journey.

Read the true story about Cheri’s fight to defend her son.

In 2014, Cheri Bergeron had been legally separated from her husband, Clay Saunders for two years. They had one daughter together. Sadly, they had also suffered the loss of two other children.

Cheri wanted a bigger family. She wanted another child, so she made a choice. Her choice.

She informed her estranged husband that she intended to become pregnant through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). He did not object.

She became pregnant with an anonymous sperm donor and gave birth to her son in May 2015. Her estranged husband filed legal documents in 2016 to declare that he was not the father.

Then, 37 months later, Clay Saunders changed his mind and sued to gain parental rights over Cheri’s son—over her objections, since she was the child’s natural mother.

On December 12, 2019, a Travis County judge ordered Clay Saunders to take a DNA test to prevent him from becoming the legal father of her 4-year-old boy.

Cheri’s custody battle ended in her favor. Now, she’s organizing to protect the rights of other women wishing to become mothers on their own terms.
